Biography

  • Gold Medal for her years of service to poetry and to the translation of Armenian literature, presented by from the Minister of Culture of Armenia, Hasmig Poghosyan, October, 2007 in Yerevan Armenia.
  • The first Mesrob Mashtots Translation Award 2003.
  • The Armenian National Library Medal for her poetry and translations.
  • The Armenian Writers Union Award for 1988.
  • The PEN-New England GOLDEN PEN Award for service to the literary community.
  • The National Writers Union Award for widening the American Poetry audience with international poetry events in Boston with readings for Andrei Voznesenski, Bella Akhmadulina, Yevtushenko, Vassilikos, Transtromer, etc.
  • National Endowment for the Arts award.
  • St. Sahag Medal from the Catholic Bishop in Beirut, Lebanon, for her work in correcting the mislabeling in a traveling art show from Turkey, laying claim to Urartu, Hittite, Greek, and Armenian Christian art.
  • Paterson Prize, for The Circle Dancers from the Paterson N.J. Poetry Center.
  • International Poetry Forum publication prize for the Selected Poems of Emin.
  • QRL Colladay publication prize for Across Bucharest in the Rain, the selected poems of Maria Banus, Quarterly Review of Poetry, Princeton NJ.
